Closure of the popular summer destination was needed to hasten the recovery of the 18,000-acre tableau of meadows, steep canyons and redwoods that have inspired millions since California’s oldest park was founded in 1902.

A Puerto Rican judge has issued a restraining order against superstar Ricky Martin. A police spokesman says the order was signed Friday and authorities visited an upscale neighborhood in the north coastal town of Dorado where the singer and actor lives to try to serve the order. Spokesman Axel Valencia told The Associated Press on Saturday. that police haven't been able to find Martin. The singer’s publicist did not immediately return a message seeking for comment. It isn't known who requested the restraining order. Valencia says he cannot provide further details because the order was filed under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law.

Two people familiar with the decision say star forward Zion Williamson has agreed to a five-year extension worth $193 million. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because NBA rules do not allow the extension to become official until July 6. The deal sets the stage for the 2019 top overall draft choice out of Duke to give an All-Star caliber boost to a squad that just proved it could make the playoffs without him. ESPN first reported the agreement, citing information provided by Williamson’s agent, Austin Brown. The deal comes despite Williamson missing all of last season with a foot injury.

Bubba Wallace says the pointed criticism he made toward members of his crew last weekend were a result of his passion to win and shouldn’t harm his relationship with them. That passion was on display last weekend at Nashville. Wallace was in sixth place Sunday when a loose wheel during a pit stop sent him toward the back of the pack and caused him to curse at his crew. Wallace will be starting in the 25th position Sunday as the Cup Series comes to Road America for the second straight Fourth of July weekend.

Ty Gibbs overtook NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson on the final lap of overtime Saturday at Road America for his fourth Xfinity Series victory of the season. The race featured a major wreck that impacted about a third of the 38-car field. Larson, competing in an Xfinity Series event for the first time since 2018, was leading when Cole Custer’s brake failure resulted in a late caution flag that produced overtime. The 19-year-old Gibbs, the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, chased Larson for much of the overtime session, passed him early in the final lap and remained in front the rest of the way for his third career road-course win. Gibbs’ winning margin was 0.858 seconds.

Police say the suspect entered a Tribeca residential building linked to Swift on March 26. Authorities say he fled on foot when security told him to leave. On June 12, police say the same man entered another residential building on the same street linked to Swift and “made threats through the intercom toward a 32-year-old female." He was arrested Friday. The 32-year-old Swift has had prior issues with alleged stalkers. In 2018, police said a man broke into her Tribeca townhouse and took a nap.

The marshal of the U.S. Supreme Court has asked Maryland and Virginia officials to enforce laws she says prohibit picketing outside the homes of the justices who live in the two states. Marshal Gail Curley took up the issue Friday with Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and two local elected officials. A Hogan spokesman said Saturday that the Republican governor had directed state police to “further review enforcement options that respect the First Amendment and the Constitution.” But he also noted that the constitutionality of the Maryland statute Curley cited has been questioned by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.

The St. Louis Cardinals became the first major league team to ever hit four straight home runs in the first inning when Nolan Arenado, Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez and Dylan Carson connected against Philadelphia. The Cardinals tied the MLB record for any inning with four in a row. It was the first time they had done it, and the 11th time overall in big league history. After Phillies starter Kyle Gibson got the first two outs, Paul Goldschmidt singled before Arenado’s drive to left field started the long ball onslaught. Gorman, Yepez and Carlson kept up the long ball barrage. The home crowd gasped when Lars Nootbaar followed Carlson with a flyball that was caught in deep left field but well shy of the warning track to end the inning.
