PROSPECT HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — A preschool and a home decor shop will be the latest businesses opening in buildings in the controversial Pacific Park development, developers announced.
Wonderforest Nature Preschool, an extension of Prospect Park-based program Brooklyn Nature Days, has signed a lease at Pacific Park's 38 Sixth Ave. building and home decor, jewelry and gift shop Cain Sloan signed a lease at the 535 Carlton Ave. building, Greenland Forest City Partners said Monday.
The businesses are the latest commercial additions to the residential buildings, which are part of the 22-acre development complex in north Prospect Heights.
"Wonderforest Nature Preschool and Cain Sloan are indicative of the kind of locally-owned, New York based small businesses we are looking to support at Pacific Park," Greenland Executive Vice President of Development Scott Solish said. "As New York begins its recovery from the pandemic, we will continue to accelerate development at Pacific Park to ensure we are providing a range of shops, arts and culture, and small businesses for residents to enjoy."
The leases are the first brick-and-mortar space for both businesses.
For Wonderforest Nature Preschool, the 3,629-square-foot space will mean expanding its existing services, offering indoor programs and starting up a full-day daycare.
"Brooklyn Nature Days is delighted to be growing and to have found our first brick and mortar space at 38 Sixth Avenue and inside the growing Pacific Park community," said founder Sarah Carlson. "In light of the pandemic, it is crucial that our students continue to explore outside in the fresh air and open spaces that nature provides."
The preschool is one of at least two new daycares coming to Prospect Heights this year.
Cain Sloan's 1,873-square-foot corner space will offer an "immersive experience" surrounding the company's products, which feature work by local artists.
The Sixth Avenue and Carlton Avenue complexes are the two "affordable" buildings in Pacific Park. Developers have also finished two others — a luxury condo complex on Vanderbilt Avenue and the world's tallest modular building at 461 Dean St. — in the project.
The massive development project, first known as Atlantic Yards, has faced criticism since it was first announced more than a decade ago.
Other retail additions to its buildings include ceramics studio BKLYN CLAY, Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream, Beer Street, Ciao Gloria cafe and a medical center for New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
