The Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie has a full calendar of activities planned for this summer. Kids ages 7 and up can come to the museum for Projects On The Prairie on Tuesdays in June and July. Jessie Walsh, exhibits and events manager for the museum, said programming kicks off with a Flag Day presentation on Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

“We are going to talk to the kids about the history of Flag Day. We will also have a craft to do. It will just be a fun, nice way to ease into things,” Walsh said.

Programming continues with an art workshop led by Monica Petter on Tuesday, June 21, at 10 a.m.

“We are going to paint birdhouses with her. She came by the other day and told us about her plans, and we are really excited about it,” Walsh said.

A staff member from the Delta Rivers Nature Center will lead an animal presentation on Tuesday, June 28, at 10 a.m.

“They always bring some really cool animals with them. I am not sure which animals it will be this year. We just know that it is going to be cool to meet these animals and learn all about them,” Walsh said.

The museum will facilitate “Rain Sticks and Games” with special help from the Delta Cultural Center on Tuesday, July 12, at 2 p.m. Additionally, Dyan Bohnert will hold a crafting class at the museum on Tuesday, July 19, at 2 p.m.

“I think we are talking about doing some crafts with paper and really teaching kids all the ways to be creative with scraps that you can probably find at home,” Walsh said.

To wrap up Projects on the Prairie, the museum will hold a butter churning workshop on Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m.

“You get to shake your little container full of cream to make some butter. We will learn a little bit about this thing that we kind of take for granted whenever we just run to the store and pick it up in a plastic tub,” Walsh said.

All Projects on the Prairie activities will be held at the museum, which is located at 921 E. 4th St. in Stuttgart. Registration is encouraged for the free programs. To sign up, visit the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie Facebook page.

The museum will hold a Victorian luncheon on Thursday, June 16, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Walsh said the event marks the opening of the museum’s “June Bride” exhibition.

“This year’s Victorian luncheon is going to be kind of a hybrid because we will have lunch and the program like we always do. We will also have the opening of a temporary exhibit, which will have wedding dresses from our own collection on display for the last two weeks of June,” Walsh said.

The exhibit will remain on display until Thursday, June 30.

“These dresses do not really see the light of day that much because we have to keep them in storage to preserve them. It will be good for them to be out,” Walsh said.

Attendees will enjoy lunch and a presentation by guest speakers Dr. Allison Denman Holland and Melody Stackhouse. Registration for the event is required.

“I would say registration any time before June 11 would be ideal. That way the caterer knows how much food to have ready,” Walsh said.

Community members can purchase tickets by calling the museum at 870-673-7001 or by visiting the museum.

The Museum will host Coffee with the Curator, its new monthly program, on the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. Participants will be able to chat with museum staff about local history. A different topic will be up for discussion each month. The program will begin with a conversation about the original buildings of Main Street in Stuttgart on Thursday, July 7.
