The nation's largest food distributor has joined the other businesses accusing the four largest meat processors of working together to inflate beef prices. Sysco recently filed a federal lawsuit in Texas accusing Tyson Foods, JBS, Cargill and National Beef of price fixing. The lawsuit said those companies have conspired to suppress the number of cattle slaughtered to help drive up the price of beef. The allegations are similar to ones in lawsuits filed by grocery stores, ranchers, restaurants and other wholesalers. The companies didn't immediately respond to questions about the new lawsuit Thursday, but they have defended their actions in the other cases. The industry maintains that supply and demand drive beef prices, not anticompetitive behavior.

The halt began after a judge ordered on Thursday that all inoculations in that age group halt until officials present documents relating to contracts signed with vaccine manufacturers. The government says it will appeal the ruling, characterizing the stoppage it as a threat to public health. Vaccination for children under 13 in Uruguay has been on a voluntary basis. The Health Minisistry saays vaccinations for those older than 13 will be continue.

That's a slower pace than for older groups, but the White House says it was expected for the eligible U.S. population of about 18 million kids. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is set to publish initial data for shots for the age group later Thursday, reflecting doses administered since regulators authorized them on June 18. The first vaccinations didn’t begin until several days later because the doses had to be shipped to doctors’ offices and pharmacies. U.S. officials had long predicted that the pace of vaccinating the youngest kids would be slower than for older groups. Most shots are expected to take place at pediatricians’ offices.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt is calling for a special audit of Tulsa Public Schools for what he says is a potential mishandling of public funds. Stitt said he ordered the audit on Thursday at the request of Tulsa school board members E’Lena Ashley and Jennettie Marshal. The two wrote to Stitt on July 1 to complain that state contract laws may have been violated. Telephone and email messages left Thursday with Tulsa Public Schools were not immediately returned. Stitt also raised concerns the school may be violating a new state law that he signed after the Legislature passed it last year. It prohibits the teaching of certain concepts of race and racism.
